

Started in 2011, Celebrate ORGULLO is a Festival Showcasing
Hispanic LGBT Pride during Hispanic Heritage Month
- The First Event of its kind in the U.S.
Celebrate ORGULLO® is a grassroots effort, conceived and implemented by a
group of volunteers who decided that it was time for Miami Beach to lead the way
in honoring the cultural contributions of the LGBT Hispanic community.
The event is free and open to the public, and a portion of the proceeds from the
sale of food and beverages will benefit our LGBT Youth Scholarship Fund and
year round programming of the Unity Coalition|Coalicion Unida, Inc.
. Celebrate ORGULLO is an independent corporation registered in Florida,
and its Board of Directors are Herb Sosa - president, Eddie Miranda -Treasurer,
Davin Williams - Secretary and Ileana Morales-Vice President.
Unity Coalition|Coalición Unida is a Florida 501(c)3 non-profit whose focus is the
Leadership, Protection & Promotion of Latino|Hispanic LGBTQ rights (lesbian,
gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning) - The only organization of its kind in
South Florida since 2002.
We are proud to present the Annual Celebrate ORGULLO Festival which
highlights, celebrates and supports the contributions of the Hispanic LGBT
community.
WHAT: Free and open to the public, Celebrate Orgullo® will feature
music, dance, refreshments, vendor booths, and more! A portion of
proceeds from the sale of food and beverages will benefit the LGBT
Youth Scholarship Fund.
WHEN: Saturday, October 6, 2012, Noon – 6 pm
WHERE: 12th Street & Ocean Drive, on the sands of Miami Beach
ABOUT NATIONAL HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH
The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President
Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to
cover the 30-day period from September 15 through October 15.
The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of
independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala,
Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their
independence days on September 16 and September 18, respectively.

Celebrate ORGULLO® es un esfuerzo a nivel local, concebido e implementado por

SOBRE EL MES DE LA HERENCIA HISPANA
La observación se inició en 1968 como la Semana de la Herencia Hispana
