The Fabulous Beekman Boys turn the farm fey

It’s the age-old story rooted in classic American literature: superstar NYC drag queen
and Martha Stewart VP doctor relocate to a bustling, fertile farm in upstate New York.
This tale as old as time, or literal fairy tale, if you will, comes to us in two versions: TV
and print, in the form of The Fabulous Beekman Boys and The Bucolic Plague,
respectively.

For the medium of TV, The New York Times bestselling author and former drag star
Joshua Kilmer-Purcell and partner Dr. Brent Ridge help convince us that gays can get
down and dirty on the farm in the new Planet Green reality show, The Fabulous
Beekman Boys. One of the rarest gay breeds (and one of Bel Ami’s favorite clichés),
the gay farmer, is cultivated and brought to fruition in the reality series as cameras
follow Josh and Brent around their upstate farm as they raise kids (the goat kind) and
frolic the surprisingly gay town with the locals.

If the reality show isn’t enough insight into the lives of gay corn-fed boys getting down
and dirty with pigs (otherwise known as our weekly after-hours party), Joshua Kilmer-
Purcell’s brand-spank-us-new memoir, The Bucolic Plague, provides an in-depth look
behind-the-queens.

In the same snarky, sassy prose that earned him our adoration with his publishing
debut, the must-read I Am Not Myself These Days, Josh supplies his wit in droves and
turns a simple move to the country into the most fabulously campy, gay series of events
ever. Throw in a few segments from the city (including funny
tidbits from backstage at The Martha
Stewart Show) and you’ve got our
favorite summer time read.

With many places (and pages) to
turn to catch the Fabulous Beekman
Boys, this summer might play host to
the gayest love story set in the
country since Huck and Finn!
