COMING TO AMERICA | DJ Nicole Baldwin hits Florida by musical storm

One of the hottest sounding and looking female DJs in Brazil is
coming to spin here for the first time , and she happens to be a
good friend, so I took the opportunity to sit with her to ask her a
few questions...
You have a background in Psychology and Fashion, but you seem to best express
yourself at the turntables…How did you get to DJ, and how is it satisfying to you
creatively and mentally?
I'm very eclectic, always liked a lot of things at the same time, but music has always been
with me since childhood. And no doubt it is the best way to express myself, I am very
happy and very expressive and I communicate through the music.
The audiences in Brazil are famous for their energy, sexuality and intensity. How does
this compare for you to other places you have played?
Parties in Brazil definitely have a lot of energy, but electronic music is so popular right now
in all countries that I play in, I get a very special energy from the audience.
Do you find gay and straight venues to have a different vibe? How?
Yes. My experience is bigger in straight parties, but I have a gay club in Brazil that I've
played and several festivals - big gay parties. The gay audience is very lively, fun, dance
more, sing more and not tied to specific behaviors, the goal of gay in a party is fun and
this awesome for the DJ.
Describe your style of music?
I Played House Music, I call the " girls music" , because it is very feminine and dancing.
What do you listen to on your Ipod now? What makes you dance?
I'm very eclectic. But at the moment because my job I listen deep house, tech house and to relax MPB (Popular Brazilian Music).
To dance, House, of course.
What is your favorite article of clothing and why?
For playing and dancing - dresses. I love Leggings during the day because they are comfortable and practical.
What music makes you feel sexy?
Music with female vocals.
Other than yourself, what DJ’s do you most like and why?
I really like the current producers like Axwell, Solomun, Steve Angelo ...
But a great reference for me as my husband DJ Double S, DJ for over 20 years,
was with him I learned to play and fell in love with House Music.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years artistically?
In my almost five year career, I think have already achieved important things. I've played for two consecutive years in Ibiza, in places like
Bora Bora and Privilege, played in Portugal, Zaragoza, Uruguay, Paraguay ... Won awards for Best DJ Woman from southern Brazil ...
participated in big projects ... So, if I can keep my career with all the same dedication and love in the next five years, I'll be happy.
You will be coming to Florida to spin for the first time – what should we expect?
Like Ibiza, Miami is a dream for many DJs, so I'm very excited to make a great show with lots of energy.
Where and when are you playing?
I will playing at the Edison Farrows HYPE FRIDAYS @ MOVA Lounge on June 22 in Miami Beach - Hope to see everyone there!
