How did your SATC collaboration start? Did the show's legendary stylist, Patricia Field, call you
up?
Exactly. Pat Field’s team collected some samples from us. They had specific ideas of what they
wanted and we made 30 or 40 shoes for the movie and another 30 or 40 for the press tour. We
gave her everything from colored pythons to booties. We weren’t
about matching the yellow dress with the yellow shoes. It was more, what
color would this shoe look great in? And she will figure out how to work it.
Are they all custom designs? Just wondering if we can buy them, too.
Some were custom. Some were just part of my Fall collection that
you can get at Bergdorf Goodman or Net-A-Porter. The Loca, that’s
the periwinkle one with gold studs and transparent sides, is a shoe
we already had. We just made them in Sarah Jessica’s size. The
white patent leather Starlet pump is just a really great classic
shape with this martini heel, a thin cone-shaped heel. It’s
very timeless. Others are one of a kind. They wanted a
version of the Nico Strass in hunter green suede covered
in green Swarovski crystals. It’s just been kissed with
all these sporadic crystals and it
gives an amazing light.
Clothes and accessories are
practically characters in their
ownright in "Sex and the City."
What’s it like to see your shoes larger
than life on screen?

Meet SJP's New Shoe Guru | Brian Atwood
by Sarah Bernard
Forget Blahniks and Louboutins. The only shoes for Sarah Jessica Parker right now
are Brian Atwoods, or "BAs" as they’re known to obsessed fans like Demi Moore, Kate
Hudson and Cameron Diaz. The coolest shoes you’ll see Carrie wear in Sex and the
City 2 are all the handiwork of the Milan-based former model who began his shoe
career sketching for Versace.
In fact, you’ve seen a few pairs already. The white patent leather pumps that punctuate
Carrie’s Madonna-esque 80s homage? Atwoods. Those periwinkle studded platforms
Parker-as-Carrie wore with skinny jeans on the NYC set? Atwoods again. And the list
goes on. All this big-screen attention will more than likely mean a lot more of us will be
coveting (and saving up for) Atwood's sexy designs. We spoke to Atwood about
becoming Carrie’s go-to shoe guy.
You first met SJP when she hosted the Council of Fashion Designers of America
awards in 2003, the year you won for accessory design. Was she a fan back then?
She was, but nothing like she is now. She’s addicted.
Celebrities and stylists are your most devoted admirers. What is it exactly about
your shoes that makes such a notoriously finicky bunch fall in love?
The sex is in the heel. Besides the color and the craftsmanship,
there’s definitely an excitement that comes when you put on
these shoes. It’s the perfect amount of toe cleavage. It’s a
perfect silhouette. When you slip on these shoes, you change.
It’s just really exciting. The influence that
Sarah Jessica Parker’s had
with shoes. . . I mean, she kind of started
this whole shoe phenomenon with
Blahniks. She really publicized it and made
it her own. And she does love fashion so
that makes it more fun.
SJP is one of our fashion heroes for sure.
But, just curious, is there anyone else in
Hollywood you’d love to see in BAs?
I’m obsessed with ['Glee' character] Sue
Sylvester. I really need to get her a pair!
Check out SJP strutting her stuff in
Atwood's fantastic sky-high creations on
May 27th, when SATC 2 hits the big screen.
