hundreds of women strolling through at any given
moment – every detail was better than the last. The
Aqua Foundation for Women, is a not-for-profit
corporation founded in April of 2004, whose primary
mission is to promote the equality, strength, health
and visibility of South Florida lesbian, bisexual, and
transgender (LBT) women. Monies raised during
the Foundation's signature event, Aqua Girl(r) Week,
as well as through individual and group donations,
go directly to educate, empower and foster the
women communities. Over the past six years the
AFW has awarded over $285,000 in grants and
scholarships while empowering hundreds of
women to be engaged in our community.
To the women of the LGBT community - you
continue to amaze me and your strength and beauty
empowers generations of straight, lesbian, gay, bi-
sexual and transgendered women.

Aqua Girl 2010 | Unbridled Empowerment

Aqua Girl can only be described as the "unbridled empowerment" of the fascinating,
diverse and beautiful women of the LGBT community. This, Aqua Girls' eleventh year,
harnessed the power of hundreds of LGBT women for a series of 14 fundraising
events and activities that are as diverse as the women who attend them. Saturday’s
Pool party at the Doubletree Surfcomer was for a virgin Aqua Girl visitor like me nothing
short of spectacular. Women travelled from all over the country to socialize, dance,
discuss and just be. The energy and unbridled empowerment that flowed from these
women was frankly, a sight for sore eyes. Women, comfortable. Women, laughing.
Women, interacting. Women, dancing. Women, being who and what they were meant
to be, at the right place, and the right time in their lives. No words can describe the
energy that these women exuded today. As I sit to write this piece, the images of
fantasy, strength, empowerment, longevity and legacy flood my mind. Kudos to the
Aqua Girl team and Aqua Girl Foundation for Women - you have truly found the essence
of the beautiful women of the LGBT community – I thank you for allowing me to be a
part of it. This year's pool party was a wonderfully choreographed event at the hands of
spectacularly patient Aqua Girl staff, committee members and board members. Here’s
hoping you all get some rest this coming week, you certainly deserve it. But for the lack
of
sufficient physical restrooms instead of the portable restrooms
that were provided - the event was bedazzled by spectacular
details, every one of which I have to say I personally enjoyed.
