Today, the Domestic Partners and Family Health Coverage Ordinance
passed first reading with a 8 to 4 vote
First reading allows the ordinance to go to a Board of County Commissioners committee. The
Commissioners that voted yes were Chairman Bruno A. Barreiro, Commissioner Katy Sorenson,
Commissioner Sally A. Heyman, Commissioner Audrey M. Edmonson, Commissioner Carlos A. Gimenez,
Commisioner Barbara Jordan, Commissioner Rebeca Sosa and Commissioner Dennis C. Moss.
Now that this ordinance has passed first reading, there will be two more votes before it becomes law. The
committee meeting will be on March 12 at 2 pm and the final vote on April 8th.
If you would like to support this ordinance, please call the commissioners and the mayor to voice your
support. Tell your colleagues and friends to do the same. If you have been denied hospital visitation or you
are a county employee that supports domestic partner benefits, please call us at (305) 751-7283
