Gloria Brings Down the House in Dubai
Gloria Estefan played her first-ever concert in the Middle
East this past December, at the Media City amphitheater
in Dubai. She took the stage with her band, the Miami Sound
Machine, and they played to a packed crowd of Middle
Easterners and ex-patriots from Cuba, Puerto Rico, Brazil,
Argentina and dozens of other countries. Fans were going
wild as Gloria played old hits and tracks from her new
album 90 Millas.
The performance immediately followed a sold-out screening
of hubby Emilio Estefan's directorial debut, a feature
documentary called "90 Millas," which followed Gloria and
other music legends such as Chocolate, Cachao and
Johnny Pacheco as they created the eponymous album
and reminisced about Cuba.
The highlight of the evening had to have been when Gloria's
13-year-old daughter Emily leapt onto stage with a pair of
drumsticks and treated the audience to an impromptu
performance. Needless to say, Gloria and Emilio aren't the
only ones in the family with musical talent.
The concert marks the end of the Estefans' week-long stay in the Middle East, during which they attended the
Dubai International Film Festival and did press for both Gloria's album and Emilio's film.
